And if so can I put a new piece of copper straight into compression?
And will modern olives work in existing fitting or will it be some old thing needed that I don't have?
It's hard to get to, photo taken blind by sticking my hand down there. Can get tools to it but not eye level with fitting.
Thanks

Looks like a 1/2" male iron. New 15mm nut and olive should do you mate or put a new male iron in its place.

Bit of a mixture, Top is Lead with piece of copper fitted to iron pipe from floor, is it gas ?

Feed to bath taps. Lead all the way to taps. Just want to re-pipe in copper but dont want to have to replace copper to iron as it's tricky access. I know the threads on old compression don't always match new but I can re-use old nut if need be. But if it's got some freaky stepped olive or some such weirdness I hope I can just use normal current olive on normal 15mm copper?

It's def a bit of copper yeah? Not some little bit of lead going into a leadlock to iron. Don't know if such a thing exists.

Not sure why the guy would have had copper but chosen to pipe up in lead. But hey ho.

it wont be copper its a brass tail when you wiped a joint you tapered the lead to accept the brass tail then wiped it with plumbers solder

thats a lead to iron union it will not be chamfered to accept copper and a olive you can sometimes get a tap con on them or screw the brass bit out of the steel and screw in a new male iron to copper if you cant budge it some heat will help or youll have to cut it out with a junior blade down the middle
as said not copper brass cap and lining if its in good nick you could just reuse iton the new bath

Ok cheers. It is in good nick but he wants rid.

Getting a tap con on them would be brilliant but I'll presume I'll have no such luck.

So for screwing it out - what tools would you use? Stilsons on the iron and big adustables on the flange of the lead to iron? And will PTFE be fine or would it be better to use some loctite?

Being a wimp I never usually touch lead and iron stuff but it's one part of a bigger job which I'd quite like to get.

just get it hot and youll probably turn it with a spanner and stilsons on the iron to hold against

I doubt it will be iron when plumbers say male iron that is referred to the thread rather than the material
