Now, I dont expect anyone to remeber my specific thread about the technical certificate as there are plenty of them but the jist is that i wanted the best way to retrain whilst not having to sacrifice my current income, and, amongst the positive replies, there also seemed to be a lot of negative ones. Now I said all along that i realise to get the NVQ 2 and become qualified that you need on site experience (keeping my current job this would not happen) well,

I have not yet started my course as we all know the tech certs are changing so am waiting for this to be finalised, however, I have been ringing around a lot and i mean a lot of companies explaining my situation and offereing VOLUNTEER work at evenings and weekends to gain experience throughout the tech certs, this has been successfull and i have found a company that will allow me to volunteer while doing tech certs and then they will allow me to use them to do my nvq practical assessments with them (still volunteering) and if i have proved my worth by this time will offer me a job as a plumber once qualified. Now this will be hard work but I just wanted to spread the word that is not impossible to retrain as a plumber as long as you are willing to work hard and put it a lot of effort !!

anyway just happy and wanted to share !! 😀

6 or 7 years ago the company i worked for got involved in a scheme giving placements to 8 guys who were on a 1yr full time gas course, they came on placement 1 week in 5, we gave them all a job, starting on servicing only for £10ph until they built up experience to start on repairs with increment wage rises until they (now) get about £14ph, it worked well and they are all still there so these schemes work if the candidates work hard.

pleased it is all working out or you jono, here's to you getting qualified 🙂

You could still keep your current job when doing the level 2. All you need is some real jobs at the weekends for example and someone who is qualified and is willing to sign off your write-ups.

well done for showing determination matey - like you said now the hard work starts - 2 years of working for nowt near enough but it will be worth it in the end. well done and good luck.
