can some one explain what happens to the expanded water in an expansion vessel does it push back into the system or not PS its an argument i am having with another plumber cheers

the expansion vessel is just that, it allows 'space' (volume) for the water in the system to expand into when it gets hotter.

the water grows in volume (expands) as it gets hotter so needs more space. (up to a point where it splits to steam and becomes seriously larger....the expansion is exponential for anyone about to pick me up on this)

The expansion vessel has a pressurised bladder inside, which gets squashed by the expanding water.

Then as the water cools, the expansion vessel effectively pushes back and the water stays in the sealed system.

I've simplified but hopefully this helps.

Basically the water expands in the hole system when it gets hot which is why the system increases in pressure
The expansion vassel takes care of some of the expansion in the system thus reducing pressure build up,by letting some of the system water expand into it,the bigger the expasion vessel, the more system water can exband into it,thus less pressure rise
So it is the system water pressure pushing into the expansion vessel

excuse my language but thank **** cause this nugget is right beside me he reckoned it stayed in the vessel oh my got he has got his unvented ticket too what the f**k

oh cheers mr ground source heat pump lol
