Job interview/assessment

Been invited to a job interview assessment for a gas service/repair engineer role. From researching the company it looks like they have got the work from BG. Not been for an interview for years and never for a gas job. I am qualified and been working on and off with a gas fitter I know due to lack of work up here. I've rang up and asked about the assessment which is a written one and told me it is mainly gas safety. Just after any tips what could be asked at interview and assessments. Cheers for any help.

if its gas safety,it will be the basics such as ventilation,burner pressures, unsafe situations and what you would classify them ie ID AR NTCS, and maybe some basic multimeter questions, all these with BG are multiple,

on the exam they give you when you go to the bg exam to become a centrral heating installer it is all those questions above plus some questions on pump positions and auto by pass positions etc. It is really not hard most of the questions were on safety and also unsafe situations etc.

register with rig energy, they will send you some stuff before you go for a BG assessment, which is very similar to what you will sit

Thanks for replies. I will have a look at the rig energy and hit the books for a refresher. Do you's know anything about the interviews, is it give an example of this give an example of that type thing? Again, all help much appreciated.

It is all multiple choice questions they give you a question then you answer a b c or d and also in some questions they show you a picture of something and again you answer a b c or d.
There will be no questions were you will have to explain or write out an explanation of your answer.

i have heard they are doing practical testing as well (although not sure if that would be a second intervies/assessment after you have got through the first stage) we always advocate CYA, for the duration of the assessment & interview change that to C BG A to keep them right at all times and you wont go far wrong, vents for room sealed & open flue, incl compartments, IUP, and some bits and bobs on electrical safety, have a wee look at the type of electrical tester they use (socket n see ) good luck and let us know how you go

im doing this as well got mine next thursday definatly a practical test as they ask you to bring tools and saftey equipment

Nothing mentioned about practical as yet. Definately just interview and written test. Even specifies to wear shirt and tie etc. Like already mentioned could go to a practical if there's a next phase. Good luck anyway mate.

they never done a practical with us but what they did do is come out and look at a boiler installation that I had carried out to check it met bg standards i.e. pipes clipped , pipes clean ( no flux stains) bypass position etc.
I don't no how they are going to give you a practical test as every time they do these interviews its in hotels or function suites.

up here they hold the interview assessment in their new training centre, (in Hamilton, Lanarkshire) so practical assessing and fault finding wont be a prob for them to set up

going to one of these on 15th 2.5 days one hour closed book test then induction on their way of working laptop etc suppliers
100.00 just for taking the test if you fail you gt your 100.00 if you stay for 2.5 days 500.00

By up here I take it you mean scotland? as this is were I done mines also and it was in a hotel with dinner bought for you in hotel .
No mention of practical and this was 3 months ago so I don't no about practical test must be a new thing.

yes all the agencies are telling the guys they need to go to the training centre for assessment, perhaps you got yours while they were in transit between Queenslie & Hamilton and the centre was shut,

yes I think you might actually be right kirk gas maybe that's why.... I did actually think it was strange that they allowed you to take them to a install of your choice so everyone will just take them to there best one...
its like gas safe they let you choose were you take them which is strange because you could do 100 boilers and only do one right then take them there 😕 oh well ....
Good luck every one you will probably leave them after a month anyway........

Got turned down for the job but passed the written test and presented myself in a positive attitude etc etc. According to the email I got it just said there were more experienced candidates etc. There was a practical as the next stage but obviously I didn't get to that stage. Seems they were taking on a lot of engineers, particularly in my area (North East) and also scotland. Still enjoyed the experience and will know what to expect for any further opportunities. Thanks for all the help anyway much appreciated and good luck to anyone else going for jobs.

hi ya all!
did bg induction at wsm couple years ago, usual test questions,
couple guys came in late so they gave em the answers to help em catch up!
both failed test! bg took em on anyway!
