I have a customer who has 2 runs of trac pipe running from their boiler/meter house. (This is not a normal house !)

1. 1 1/2" to the house
2. 1" to the boiler for the pool.

Unfortunatley while repairing the underground heating pipework the contractor dug up the gas pipe and which has now been chopped and capped. Can this been joined or does it require to be totally replaced from meter manifold to ecv in house and pool plant room. I have been told 2 different stories.
1. It is okay to join if the joins are accessable ?
2. Not able to be joined if join below ground .

Any suggestions ?

viper book, says one entire length without joints underground.

Have you considered seeking the advice of the manufacturer.

wouldnt be down to the manufacturers its not like an appliance...

No joints undergrond unfortunately its a complete new run.

I have winessed two seperate instances in the last two years where an underground
yellow plastic gas supply ( not sure of the exact size but about 25mm ) has been
repaired by Transco subbies.
They used two plastic straight couplings with heating wires mounted inside the socket
which connected to a timed power supply mounted in the van.

Plastic pipe was clamped off upstream with a kind of G clamp not having flat platens
but rollers,

Sorry I did not know that tracpipe could be used underground,

But if it cant be joined under ground one would question its usefulness

The rule regarding joints of this kind are that joints which have a 'manipulative thread'. So compression or flanged joimts etc.

Fusion welding is fine.

Interesting though, I spoke to an ACS assesor about this thread and he said that he couldnt see it being a problem having a joint as it is outside. Scary really
