Can anyone recommend a good quality Thermal Store, if there is such a thing!
I've had a look at [DLMURL="http://www.jouleuk.co.uk/Cyclone_Thermal_Stores/299"]Joule Thermal Stores[/DLMURL], and would be interested to hear any comments or experiences with them.

I would always recommend an unvented cylinder over a Thermal Store, but when there's absolutely no where for the discharge pipe to go, then a Thermal Store may be the only viable solution. Gledhill cylinders are not an option!

Had no problems with joule unvented cylinders if that counts for anything.

You installing in a basement or something?

Thanks, that's useful to know - I'll have a look at their unvented cylinders too.
Not in a basement, but a block of flats with no where to run a safety discharge pipe. Neither of them want another Gledhill cylinder, and unfortunately they seem to be the main supplier of thermal stores...

Thanks Howsie and Gray0689.
I have had a look at ACV, and whilst it sounds like an impressive product, I think it may be OTT for a small Economy7 flat.

I'll give them a call tomorrow and see if they have something they would recommend.

joule are getting popular and i have had /heard of no complaints regarding them.... what are the problems with the Gledhill tanks???

Thanks for your comments regarding Joule.
We have taken out a lot of Gledhill thermal stores, and all customer have had no end of problems...but I guess we only hear from those who want to upgrade to an unvented system!

One blocks of flats with Gledhill Torrent thermal stores have had no end of problems since day one - the flats are now about 9 years old, and cylinder have already been replaced. Another block of flats with Gledhill Pulsacoil 3 thermal stores have been suffering a string of various problems since they were 4-5 years old.
All the customers specifically say they do not want another Gledhill.

Thanks Howsie and Gray0689.

Acv cylinders are not what your looking for for that wee job

Can you not get a blow off out somewhere and just stick in a small direct unvented cylinder a lot cheaper than any thermal store and a lot better imho

I suspected that to be the case with the ACV - it sounds expensive too!

Nowhere for the discharge. I'm sure they deliberately designed these flats with the airing cupboard in the centre, so a thermal store (with no overflow) is the only option.

I agree an unvented cylinder would be so much cheaper and definitely better.

ACV can go on open vent. Gledhill are poototheroof! Nice scrap tho. Bang in a combi and have a holiday

That's very interesting. Is it the control system or the heat exchanger(s) that are problematic?

I am wondering whether there's a problem with particularly hard water in the area that's causing problems?

I'm looking to upgrade a system in Cambridgeshire where the water is fairly hard and am not sure whether to resist fitting a thermal store. The SLME thermal stores from ACV claim to be self descaling. Any thoughts?

Acv are best on market
Pm me if you need an email address to get more info from there specialist
