Hi All....my first post :) ....please be kind!!

Thinking of putting in a Keston C40 LPG boiler into my new build. Boiler needs to be 40KW or more I have been informed. Would like to hear comments from installers and service engineers with regards to said boiler. Also are there any alternatives that I should be considering.

Many thanks,

Mrs C

Well in my humble opinion, the answer to your question 'should you put in a Keston'
Is short and sweet....NO
They are unreliable .have a short life span, poor build quality and many engineers do not work on them
As for a replacement you could try worcester,they do a 42 k/w,maybe valliant,believe baxi do a 40 k/w
I do not know the build so it is hard to comment on your requirements
But you are pushing the limits of the domestic boilers at 40 k/w,cost wise, I know people say they have not the space,no matter how big the home, but I would consider using two smaller boilers and dividing the work load
That way the units are comfortable with their requirements, you move back into economical reliability and parts and labour will become more readily available :)

Hi Puddle,

thanks for your reply....my problem is that I can't have a combi for my system set up. I'm needing it to work with a multifuel stove with back boiler and solar panels. I'm off mains so my only options are LPG or oil, LPG I have been informed is more efficient, hence my decision and can only find a Keston with large enough KW output......maybe I should look at oil again.....Grant Vortex?

Headache coming on......;)

Hi

Was not thinking combi
Give baxi and worcester a ring direct explain your requirements and see what they come up with,I would also say give valliant a ring but they never seem to answer the phone
You could still use the option of two smaller units, with your system, this could work out well,if boiler only needed quite often as a heat ' top up'

Hi Puddle....

have just had a great phone call to Worcester-Bosch and think their 40 CDI Conventional will do the trick for me, seems to be cheaper than the Keston too!!

Thanks for your help!

Mrs C

The 40 Cdi is a nice boiler.

Youll be happy with your desicion.

just to throw a spanner in the works, why not put in a remeha quinta. if your going for lpg, lovely system boiler. if you do go for the oil then the worchester would still come second for me, beaten by any cast iron floor standing boiler full of baffles and an eogb burner!

Hi Shaun,

thanks for your reply.....never heard of this make of boiler but just had a quick google and they do seem to get a great write up. Can't find any prices though...any idea costs of quinta 45 LPG?

thanks again,

Mrs C

would not disagree with shaun the remeha quinta is a very good boiler, very reliable
But as mentioned alot of people not heard of it,not sure of after sales service and part avalibility in your area

I have an idea with this. I think that each area of the country has favoured appliances manufacturours therefore the repair engineers in the area are used to attending the common makes and get used to faults (if any) to these appliances. Maybe go to a local plumber friendly merchants and ask which boilers are used in that area. Then get a reccomandation. If you were to install Remeha Quinta boiler then lose contact with the engineer who installed it, then had a fault on the boiler and had to find some one with knowledge on tech repairs within an unknown boiler you might have problems? Take the easy route and install a popular make of boiler such as Vaillant or Worcester you won't go far wrong.

just been thinking long and hard about rydells comment. i think he is spot on. no point in installing a boiler that wont be looked after. i can say their after sales service is spot on, if theres a problem you can speak to a tekkie not a librarian and calls are answered immediately. they are not well known because they are mostly commercial boilers (low maintenance required and asked for) but do make some nice combis as i have learnt this year!

told you id throw a spanner
