Hi All,
I'm 53 now and my knees are well and truly playing up. I've used knee pads all my plumbing life but the pain is still there. Painkillers are giving me a bad stomach and although I'm doing all the physio exercises they're not working yet so I was wondering if any of you have had the same experience and how you dealt with it. Cheers all!
Guy

In my experience, physiotherapy is good but not a quick fix. Think months not weeks and you have to keep doing the exercises or the benefit evaporates.

If you're getting stomach pain from aspirin-type painkillers a switch to paracetamol might be worth considering. Don't ignore this issue, talk to a pharmacist. Depending on what's wrong with your knee, warmth or cooling might help.

Try to figure out what type of work triggers or worsens the problem and reduce or avoid it. If find that walking a mile or two a day very benficial and I believe that taking a vitamin D supplement helps too.

I know it's not what your after but I changed to redbacks pads a few months ago and my knees are better now than they've been for a while.
Just need to sort out something for my knuckles now, perhaps it's time for some supplements?

Only a temporary solution but high strength Voltarol works well when I need it (not always thankfully), quite pricey at around £16 per 100ml but worth it.

The other thing to do is go see your GP, if all that over the counter pain relief is causing you say acid burn then he could prescribe an antacid like Pantoprazole. They are apparently very effective.

Consumption of "good bacteria" is thought to be helpful, probiotic yoghurts and the like.

You don't want to be getting something like GERD or Barretts disease in your later years if you can help it, it is horrible and can lead to more serious complications.
