I was surprised when I replaced the toilet just over a week ago. The exit pipe to the soil stack was in lead? The house was built in 1964. Was this common?

I would have though this matrial would have been phased out earlier than this.

Hi. There were still a few about using this method / material. By using lead pipe through the wall and on to the pan is gave a certain amount of flexibility, that reduced stress on pan china ware and easier to adjust to suit pan connection. A brass caulking bush was wiped on to the lead pipe, before entering cast iron branch on stack.
