Hi Just an intro, i am new to the forum, well should i say been "lurking" for about a month now reading all the various threads. But is my first real post.

Have done lead to copper before by means of lead lock either 7lb/9lb but came across one the other day at a job, is a cold feed to the house from the CWT which needed fixing.... anyway with out going on to much had to order another size lead lock 11lb but even that still wont fit.

Just wanted to know if anyone had any ideas, have been looking for a bigger lead lock but not with much joy, I have come across lead - copper that has been melted or "sweated" together with no lead lock i know absolutely nothing about that, so wont even think about it.....

just looking for some advice...... as i said before, fairly new to the forum and after reading many posts in othere threads........ if this is a stupid topic/ question please be gentle.... some chaps on here can be harsh...

thanks

welcome to the site enjoy your time here.
no one is harsh, there just having a laugh! its not skrufix forum u know?

have you tried shaving down the lead to fit?
or is the pipe 30mm/ 3/4'' l/lock required not 22mm?

well with the 11lb i may have a chance, but space is a problem built into the wall, took me ages to create enough access to the pipe. I mean if i have to, i will but its a hourly rate job, little old lady so trying to make the quickest repair......

Also another question sorry... she previously had tanks, but a little while ago another chap came out and put her on the mains... now she has lead pipe all over..... will these be a persistant problem as her pipes have run on tank pressue for years, now onto mains pressure?

P.S. have only been plumbing for a year......

change all the lead for 22mm copper do it at a cost rate then scrap the lead, could bring in a couple of hundred?.;)

you know what, it amazes me the amount of people in their 70/80/90's including my mum and i to not so long ago, who live in these propertys to a ripe old age with masses of lead piping and we are not suposed to solder a joint with it?.

I did a job similar to this and spent an age making the lead fit. I can be a little heavy handed so used sand paper/emery strips. Have to ensure that its taken off all the way round not taken from one side though.

This house was the same lead everywhere and it was leadlok heaven. I explained that copper would be best and she said "yeah, I know, my daughter can deal with all that when she inherits the place"

There was no work done on this house in about 40 years, it was like a museum:D

id just wipe a bit in sod the regs shes not gonna die of lead poison because of a wipe

How can you say that,my gran was 96 and had a little leak on her lead pipework ,I did as you say wiped a bit over it and two years later she died,I still find it hard to live with myself,if only I had used milliput, she may well still be with me,probably not though, coz that happened twenty years ago ,so she would be 116 now :)
