Hi guys
I am new to this forum this is my first post. I've recently had a burst on a mains pressurised system WHAT A MESS!!! can anyone help?.
Does anybody Know of a leak detection system that can detect a leak and then shut off the water automatically and if not why has nobody invented one.

Thanks in anticipation.

The best you can get is an excess flow valve that will shut off if more than a set amount passes through in a set time. Damage limitation rather than damage prevention.

Go to B.E.S Ltd, Plumbing and Gas supplies and search product number 13756.

Mike's suggestion is not really that practical for house protection - if you have the thing set high enough to allow you to run a bath then you will also be able to lose water at that same rate through a leak, and therefore you can still see a lot of damage done in a few minutes. You could I suppose opt for filling the bath very, very slowly!

Leak detection for a dwelling where typically you have differing amounts used at the various access points would either have to rely on detecting the presence of water where there ain't supposed to be any (such as the system in your dishwasher) or alternatively having sensors on every point of access so that any water usage could be determined as valid or invalid. Off the top of my head I can't think of any other way.............
