Hi guys.

This afternoon, got a phone call from missus telling me that the floor in the airing cupboard was wet, and that it'd been leaking...

Came home, and found that it was leaking from something. Now, me not being technical, I'm not sure what it is that's leaking, but it looks like it could be the cold water combo valve (Heatrae Valve Cold Water Combi 95605022). It might not be this, but it does look very similar to it...

Here's a picture of the part that's leaking:

The water tank itself is a Heatrae Sadia Megaflow CL210 (if that makes any sense), and here's a picture of the full setup:

So, anyone know whether the part I linked above is the bit that is leaking? Is the only way to resolve it to change that part? How easy is it to do? Or will it need a plumber coming out to look at it?

Cheers guys

Sorry buddy, you need a G3 (unvented) qualified plumber out to look at that.

It's illegal for you to attempt to fix it.

Whereabouts are you? one of the lads on here might be nearby.

Cheers.

We're based in Leicester. Any idea roughly how much it would cost to resolve the issue?

BTW, what's a G3 (unvented) plumber?! lol :baby::38:

He's a plumber who is qualified to work on unvented cylinders as stipulated in part G3 of the building regs. Make sure who ever you get has that qualification!

Unvented cylinders store enough potential energy to take the side of your house out if not treated with respect! You should get it serviced regularly as you would your boiler.

(You do get your boiler serviced don't you?)

As for costs, afraid I can't help you there, I don't deal with domestic stuff too much. I can tell you that a limit valve and control valve (with actuators) for a steam to dhw plate heat exchanger will cost around £2k. I just got the email for that......

Ouch!

OK, thanks for that. Will try calling around a few plumbers tomorrow to try and see if there's anyone who can come and have a look... Hopefully there's some local guys on here, or at least someone who knows about these types of systems that can let me know roughly how much I should be looking to pay out ... don't want someone who will rip me off hugely!

BTW, think I'll give the heat exchanger at that price a miss thank you ;)

Please don't assume we're all out to rip you off. That gets our backs up!

I'm not saying there aren't unscrupulous guys out there but they're a very, very small minority.

Sorry, I'm not saying that you are a rip off... But, going from past experiences, I'd hope you can understand why I'd be wary!

It's the same in all trades. Dodgy mechanics, computer repair men. Until you have a good person you can trust, you are wary... Please don't take any thing I've said personally or think I am judging everyone. Just being educated is better than being taken for a ride
