Leaking Towel Rail Valve

Hi All

Im no plumber but wanted some guidance on a small issue I have.

I have a towel rail installed in my bathroom and it is leaking very very very slightly on the bottom of the valve where the pipe from the GCH fits into the bottom of the valve.

I am sure it probably needs some more tape applying to the thread to make it water tight. My question is, How can I do this without making a right mess with water as soon as I loosen it slightly the water starts to increase, which is obvious I guess.

Is there an easy way to do this without the need to drain either the entire system ??

If its a sealed system drain down.
Vented system plug F&E.
Could also freeze pipe.
Or you could get a plumber in (probably better option).Just post on here what area you are in and someone may be able to assist you!!

PTFE tape on the thread with do nothing,the thread is not the water joint,all the thread does is allow the nut to hold the olive tight in the fitting,which is the water joint,if you wish you can put a bit of tape around the olive when making the joint,first thing to do is see if you an just tighten up the nut on the valve,if only very small leak,should stop

in short you need to pull the jpint apart and inspect

WOuld be best to get a plumber out as it wont be an expensive job but may take some time if you have to drain down and refill
