Im a fully qualified level 2 plumber who finished college in July and am looking to gain employment ASAP. I have already done a number of domestic jobs for customers to give me some experience but really need to learn from an experienced plumber. Im extremely hard working and have full UK car Licence. Just need the chance to show someone how comitted i am and would be an asset to their business. If any can help or even give advice on how to get my foot in the door id be most grateful.

Hi,

I am also a level 2 plumber, was made redundant 2 years ago from a company who fitted basic bathrooms and kitchens.
Went on my own just plumbing and bathroom fitting.
Best thing i ever done! just got out there and went for it. Have learnt so much in two years and really enjoying the freedom of being on my own.Just have to be confident about your own ability and be as flexible and friendly with customers as you can.
Sure you will get the odd job that is a bit beyond what you are used to doing but there is so much access to advice out there from manufacturers and internet, if you get stuck just research as much as you can . If it really is too much then walk away from the job and stick to what you know nut the best way of learning is to go for it.
It is a bit scary at first but you dont rely on getting employed because nobody is taking people on at the moment, and any that are are paying peanuts! Fine if you are on your own maybe but not with a mortgage and kids!!

Just keep working as you are and it will get better if you do a good job and dont try and caharge the earth.

good luck

Well got my full level 2 NVQ in plumbing, 6089 and got my 6129 also. Cheers for the kind words barry, might have to start up on my own if cant find an employer, been doing few jobs here and there anyway.

Sorry at what point did I sayy I was fully qualified!!!
I said level 2, and no I havent done the nvq part for a few reasons.

1. just beacause you can pass a test in front of an instructor for the basic hot and cold pipework does not make you any more qualified to do the jod or any more competant.
2. I have never been asked if I have my nvq cert.
3. How many experienced plumbers without qualifications are out there doing a great job earning a good living? PLENTY.

Love

Barry

1. you can say that about any quals, however when i go out in my car i expect others to have achieved a recognised standard for my safety, same with nurses etc etc. plumbing is a profession which if done incorrectly can be dangerous
2. if you want a jib card you will be
3, I have no idea, if i were to guess id say a very small percentage as all the people i work with are qualified
