Really simple stupid question but where do people put there lockshields & wilheads/Trv's cause i keep coming across all different cases.

Do you put lockshields on flow or return, and the same with wilheads/Trv's i've just come across a house with rads done differently.

Is there a better heat output depending on what pipe you put them on, i've always done the same on each rad

with bi-flow trvs it doesnt matter which end you fit them. i usually fit trv on the right side and lockshield on the left

If no TRV's then best to fit them (apart from the room where there's a room stat). Before two way flows, TRVs were put on the flow pipe, lockshield on the return.

If there's a choice I tend to put them where they'll be influenced least by drafts or if still a choice in the most convenient place for the customer.

left or right it dont matter. The TRV or wheel head manual valve should be on the flow and the lock shield on the return. Some TRV's are bi directional but they still work best on the flow.
Left or right dont even come into it?

What makes you think bi-directional valves work best on the flow?

I would of thought if your trying to control the tempeture then its better to restrict the flow of hot water in than cooler water out.

i have had experience of them 'knocking' even when they are bi directional. Its my opinion they work better and quieter on the flow. does depend on which type i suppose, as with anything else some are better than others

what a wilhead? lol

on a two pipe system in my experience normal practise is lock shield on flow and wheelhead or TRV on return

That way Mr customer does not mess up my balancing

normal praactive is trv or wheelhead on FLOW and lock shield on RETURN

Doing it the other way would not stop mr customer from messing up the balancing
