Our hot water tank and CH pump is in the loft (and will remain there for sometime), I have insulated all the pipe work that I can. Most of the pipe work is under the loft insulation that also helps.

Now to the alpha 2l pump, should I put loft insulation over it, if so how much? (Or will its motor overheat?)

You must not insulate the front part, where the motor and electronics are, or they will overheat

You can buy an insulation kit for the Alpha2 L for about £10

Thanks, I will get an insulation kit ordered.

I have just got down from the loft again, the problem turned out to be a loose connection to the pump not the loft insulation. I must have moved the cable when putting insulation down. One of the screws in the plug was very loose, I don’t know why the system has been working OK for the last 3 years since that pump/boiler was installed (warm front, don’t ask!).
