I had a boiler service today, getting 12mb at inlet on gas valve on greenstar 30 cdi. Check at the meter at getting 13mb. So I call up the gas transporter, leave to go to my next job so I can come back and complete the service once they have sorted it. Customer calls me up an hour or so later to say its been done, so off I go back there and a new regulator has been fitted to the meter. So check pressure at the boiler and this time 14.5mb and now 16-16.5 at the meter. So I start getting a little annoyed, call the gas transporter again. I leave my phone number and get the customer to get the engineer that turns up to call me on arrival.

I get a call saying he is getting 19mb on their test point on the supply pipework so he is happy. I ask him to check the meter test point and he said 18mb with hob on and hot water running, the hot water wasn't set to max on the boiler and the flow rate poor from the tap he was running. I asked him to put it in max rate and he said that isn't part of their tests and they will only do anything if they are getting 15mb or less at the meter and as I was getting 16 that's fine. Since when did they not have to work to the 21 +/- 2mb rule? This is ridiculous.

they are allowed to have 16mb during peak demand periods. Of which should be less than 5% of the day (or something along those lines) so if you get less than 19mb in the middle of the night they should have to sort it out. But they dont like to do anything about it tbh.

you need to get them out at a non peak time and be there to sort it really, even then they are a law upon themselves, they will change the rules to suit themselves and save them money.

had one out the other week to a stiff ecv, the guy said its fine i can turn it off with my weight on it, the 70 year old tennant could not move it. :(

They should be getting a DMP of 19mb at the inlet but they are allowed 4mb absorption across the meter at high flow rates so 15mb at the meter outlet would be considered ok.
The regulator only needs checking with a flow rate of 0.5m3/hr but obviously higher flow rates will give more accurate readings.

I have had this problem and was there when they come out, it was a while ago I think I had about 13.5mb working at meter.

Transco came out put a test on the meter and said I've got 15mb I stand behind her and view her gauge and tell her to also use the bottom of the gauge then divide by 2...... I kid you not

They do what they want, you can only cover your back by noting the events and any reference numbers

i have been getting low pressure all week at first i was thinking my digital manometor was out of wack so gots out the old trusty warter gauge back up same readings phoned up gas transporter and they said it was down to high demand on the network and wouldnt come out because they have been getting similar calls and was nothing they could do makes you wonder dosnt it

thats what you get when you get snow in the summer. :)

best turn all appliances off till the sun comes out.

So what are we supposed to do when you cant get min pressure at inlet as required by manufacturer or boiler locks out on full rate, which has happened in the past on 35kw combi.

Had a vaillant ecotec pro24 with an boiler inlet of 9mb the other day, still gas rated fine on hot water as well.

Also had problems where they test wp by blasting it open ended at meter (outside obviously) and say its fine. My reply was not when you stick a 30kw boiler on the end. To be fair we never really have any problems getting them to sort it here (southwest)

thank god someone else is getting this. every boiler i fit or sevice nowadays is borderline and its due to supply not after meter sizing. so youve got a battle between manu's and the supplier regarding pressure. like aw said if there allowed a lowish reading regarding supply and the mi's req a minimum including any pressure drop from inlet to test point were stuffed. if its there or there abouts and the co2 and co are fine on hw full burn then i just ncs it cos i aint going back when i think its summer and the middle of the night to get a reading.

The boiler I am not concerned about, its gas rate and combustion analysis was fine even with 12mb inlet pressure. It was the hob with no FSD which was my main worry. I still don't understand why we are told 21 +/- 2mb then they come along and say its fine with 15mb, how can they say the installation is safe with low pressure?

You tell me. same with old gasfires etc.there not responsible for leaving the appliances on if your there:disappointed:

Dont you know there is a gas shortage? More and more high demand combis are being put in and connected to old networks. Often these networks cant sustain those demands at the required pressures especially at peak demand. Its an ongoing issue and one which wont be resolved quickly. The final solution is to switch to fitting system boilers. I firmly believe that this is the future and the death knell of wheezing combis is in site.
