Hi there all, is there any regs on how far gas bottles have to be from a combi boiler in a wooden hut? Im thinking on having the boiler put in the top half and having the bottom opened up for the bottles... let me know your foughts

Thanks, Richard

Well, they are classed as dewlling houses!! But I was considering haveing the bottom half open to the elements! But I would prefer the have it all closed and locked up

I would say you won't be allowed but you could check with your local building control office them might say it's ok

So theys no regs on how far from the boiler the bottles have to be? like I know plastic pipes for send nad return and H/W cannot be in plastic for the 1st 2 meters!

Like I said can't see you being allowed as should not be inside dwelling

As like I said it would be in a box at the back of the chalet which is external to the chalet!! I will get some pics up on here later on!!

LPG Propane cylinders must be located outside of the building in the open air and on a firm base, in a well ventilated area. The must be accessible at all times and unobstructed (not locked behind gates). You will require 1 metre horizontal clearance to any door or air vent or flue terminal and 300mm verticle clearance to any window, or fixed source of ignition. Cylinders must not be located within 2 metres of an untrapped drain. Cylinders should be located against a ridgid structure. If against the building, then this should have a minimum 30 minutes fire resistance. You can fit a non combustible hood over the top of the cylinders, providing it does not obstruct your valves and changeover.

Arr also going to re-build the box before putting boiler in...

And be useing eather a 47 or 19kg bottle

gas-storage-units[1].jpgDon't even think about it, If you want to hide them put them in a purpose built locker.

I see, I do like that!! I did say i could have the bottom all open but that would intervene with the 300mm vertical clearance to any window, or fixed source of ignition. So om probably better off getting one of thoes boxes, What would be best to use as a fire proof backing?

PS. As you know im not Gas Safe, But I am a plumber so I will be doing the work myself and then get a LPG Gas safe registerd person to check it over and do the drop test ect.
I will also be keeping updates on here as I go along!

Can anyone recommend what to use as fire proof backing with a 30mins burn resistance time? I assume the same backing goes behind the boiler as well ie. Screw the boiler wall plate on top.

Thanks, Richard

Naughty boy. Not gas Safe and intending to do gas work. If your DIY and intend to do gas work you must be competent. ACS or similar in LPG gas. We all know its easy to connect pipes and vessels and appriciate you asking advice, but get a qualified GSR engineer to give specific advice and carry out the work.

formalux for backing board,

change the gas to butane and it can goo indoors, almost simples.

No offence meant. ("Im leveing the Gas pipe and Flue fitting to a Gas safe registerd person.") I take this to mean all of the gas work. Glad your trying to get the job right first time.
