this might sound stupid but i have a glow worm cxi24, the manual says the Maximum heating gas flow rate is kg/h 1.44

does this mean that if i have a 47kg gas bottle, it will last 33 hours (47kg/1.44kg/h=33hours)

as i am trying to work out why one cylinder has lasted me 4/5 days

Sounds about right to me.

This is a very expensive way of doing it, I can't believe your gsr went along with it. Either.....

A. Get costs for a bulk storage tank.
B. Have your boiler ripped out and install oil.
C. Move.

yes if you have it on heating only continuously, and your heating system never reaches operating temp so your boiler wont modulate, if you leave the hot tsap on continuously it will use 1.98kg per hr, which is why I'd never install a boiler on lpg as its sooo expensive, moreso if you dont have a bulk tank. lpg cyl are ok for a cooker but you need to reconsider your heating options if you want to be able to survive in the long term.

or I could have said I agree with croppie, doh

cheers, i just moved to the property, rented will be out in 10 months, when contracted is up, the boiler is less than a week old, there is a bulk storage tank, but i couldnt afford the amount that the gas company wanted to delver me gas,

cheers for the answer, it is just so i know why i am using loads of gas

i bought the stuff, as i couldnt afford to get gas delivered as they wanted £600 miminum delivery and a 2 year contracts off me, didnt have the money at the time, but the 4 plumbers who my landlord had out not one said it would be expensive to run, compared to tank

a 47 kg gas bottle holds 92 litres, and cost me £49, so works out at about 53p litres

avanti wanted 56p per litre

Hopefully he tested the pipework. He should've advised you that you needed an automatic changeover regulator to take two bottles at the very least.

i have 2 set up at the mo, got the gear to set up 4, just wanted to know why it use 1 in 4/5 days

all pipe work went in new, as the old stuff was condemed, there is about 1.5 m of gas pipe work at most

might be that its leaking away as well if there was no gas when the install was put in, as an air test isnt sufficient to check a new install

there was gas, about 1/2 a tank when the boiler went in, just had a fresh tank delivered the day after, and switched over to the full tank, so i could judge how long it was going to last,

I agree with croppie and lame.Bulk storage or your gonna have a problem for life...have you got upso and opso valves fitted..

Thats the frightening part, like are they sited near drains is there a blast wall, are they near trees that drop leaves etc etc etc

so is it not safe and above board, i will try and upload a pic tomorrow if that helps

i found that buying in bulk was more per litre that the 47 kg tanks, 56p to 53 p, but i can budget better with the 47 kg tanks

bulks best pal becauase the storage cylinder will be well away from your house and you wont run out as fast, there are very specific reg for sitting lpg cylinders because of the potential of explosion and the gas being heaveir than air. supprised it was all ok'd on cylinders (being a house and not a caravan) tbh.

I think there's a bit too much scaremongering going on in this thread. The OP has said that the boiler and cylinder set up were installed by the same guy. Surely we can assume that he was gas safe unless otherwise told. All the OP wanted was to know if his gas consumption was about right and you've scared them half to death.
