Flow or return, although I think it is better in the return close to the heatsource. Look at the manufacturers instructions
 
if on flow make sure the vent and cold feed cant be isolated with the valves that come with the filter as this will be dangerous
 
why not read the instructions that came with the product? or did you buy this in the pub?

Should be on the return of the heating circuit. That's what the instructions tell you. However the last one I fitted due to the pipes being buried in the floor this was impossible so it was fitted in the flow just after the zone valve.

Return definetly as the magni clean is there to protect the boiler
from iron oxide (sludge)
