i have bought a magnaclean for a new heating system im about to install in my house and wanted to know are they as good as they make out.
aparently they take out vertial all iron oxide deposits from system but im not entirly sure .

They are the dogs on an old system but IMHO not worth it on a new, properly installed, system.

when installing the magnaclean do not overtighten the tail's on the valves to the plastic body, while htey are the muts nuts at taking crap out, magnaclean only put the meanest smear of jointing paste on these threads and so leak if you overtighten. Do disagree sort of with above comments, true no point having one on a brand new system, but it does make it so much easier if you want to add chemical inhibitors to the system on any sort of regular basis.

jay, new installations if correctly flushed when installed, then correctly dosed with system inhibitors and checked yearly as part of the boiler service, i have found do not need need any type of magna clean.......yet
my own personal experience!!

just saying if your putting all that money to a new system, (rads, pipe, valve and boiler) 70 quid for a product that lasts a min of 10 yrs seems a bit of a cheapskate thing to overlook, and yes if you actually read my comment it says `true no point having one on a brand new system'

Take caution, I installed one in my rented house and was called around by the tenants to attend to a leak on the Vaillant combi system. When I arrived I located the drop in pressure to be the Magnaclean leaking on the main seal! I shut down the boiler flow and return and reduced the existing pressure left in the system. Removed the Magaclean and inspected for a fault. None found so refitted the product. Found it leaking again and checked and tighterned a couple of more times. In the end I removed it and reconnected the return pipe workwith compression connector. The tenant admitted to knocking the Magnaclean quite hard but did not notice at first the leak! I am going to speak to my merchants and see if they will return the faulty unit to the manufacturers for credit or replacement. It seems to me that if these are knocked in any way they could cause a leak and when left the rubber seal in the glass base section either perishes or the plastic body gives way to water leaking through the threads. I did not want to use PTFE tape as the unit was only 3 months old. Yes I agree they should not be installed somewhere where they could be knocked but tenants are tenants and they sometimes misstreat most things IMOP But they should not leak at this connection either. This is just my findings on the Magnaclean! (Sorry its so long)!
