Just a bit of advice really. Went out to a main eco 30 which had been AR due to a leaky thermistor on the dhw. It had crusted up pretty badly and has slightly rotted the case below the diverter valve. I have fixed the leak and swapped the thermister. Now do I need to leave a notice or just a verbal to the tnt. I can't find any classification for the rotten bit of casing or am I being over cautious. Obviously there is now no leak so ........... :) Here is a photo.

I don't particularly, it's just that manky underside to the case, it's literally rotted away. There is no danger of any sort. All it is is that I have only recently passed and have my inspection hehe. Like I said I'm just being overcautious.
The guy who came before AR it for rust , im questioning my sanity atm :)

It's not at risk or anything really. It could be at risk if it was a rust case in the combustion area and fumes may escape in the future but the rusty bit you have there is just a bracket for the diverter. If it rusted away completely the boiler would still operate safely.
 
That's what I thought. Its just a mystery why the previous guy stuck an AR on it. Instead of just fixing it.Cheers for your reply mate, it was just clarification incase he knew something I didn't hehe
 
After a sale I reckon. Tnt said he also kept chopsing on about a power flush.
 
You can't really fault anyone for being over cautious. If I thought the customer was a numpty and might mess with the bottom of the case and touch live wires etc, then I'd AR it in a heartbeat.

I dont peronally think this is AR or NCS for that matter, but I'd definitely point it out on my worksheet and advise the customer about it :)

if it was the burner case corroding then yes but this is just a leak and no more
 
the bottom casing on the main is not a sealed case so I would have just reported the leak to the customer.

Some people I work with will AR a water leak if they can't repair it there and then. They'll ask the customer if they want them to drain it down - and if not, they leave an at risk incase it causes any damage, at least that way they can say they've warned them, so they can't claim.
 
Ar is applicable to gas, you are advising custard to turn off the app and if there sensible they will follow your advice. It's not there just in case of damage or possibly scaremongering. Each case has to be judged on its own merits. If there is a water leak, again depends on number of variables so can't generalise that can't be fixed, I personally would inform cust. Advise my concerns, give them a number of options and get them to sign paperwork that they understand and have chosen what's best for them.
