I think you can but whether you'll be able to secure a job without plumbing experience is doubtful. There's much to learn about with plumbing systems - it's not just a matter of slapping a few panels on a roof and plugging them in. Hugely expensive to get started too.

MCS is an accreditation that covers all renewable technologies. Its not limited to plumbing, only those technologies involving heat would require relevant qualifications and experience (i.e Heat Pumps, Biomass, Solar Thermal) in our trade. You could do Solar PV but that requires electrical qualifications and experience.
