Megaflow 170dd help please

WMegaflow 170dd cylinder

Hi, moved in to a new build and this system direct cylinder has 2 immersion heaters in it, there is a boost button in the cupboard, so I presume one immersion works at a time and the switch turns the other one on, does anybody know how this works ? Is the top or the bottom immersion heater the primary.

Seem to run out quickly if hot water but haven’t used the boost button so would like to know how much heated water you would get without using both immersions

Boost normally works the top immersion

The normal one / everyday is the bottom one

How long are you leaving it on for the bottom one

Thanks Shaun, it’s actually my mother in laws and she says she leaves it on all day and when she runs a bath the water seems to run out much quicker than it used to.

Might be worth having a look at the immersion stat see if it’s correct 60-65dc as it’s not unheard of them to be lower

The 170DD is direct (electric-only) and stores a nominal 170 litres of hot water. This amount of stored water is enough to deliver 212 litres when mixed down to 40°C. That's enough for about three decent baths. It is normal to have the lower heating element timed to come on during the night to take advance of an 'Economy 7' tariff and more recent systems may use energy from solar cells when it is available. It'll take about 3 hours for the tank to heat from 'cold'. The factory setting for the thermostat is 60°C.

The upper heating element heats just the top section of the tank and is useful if you need some extra hot water in the evening.

I'd want to check that the programmer / time-switch that controls the lower element comes on for long enough at night. Also, if it's a largish properly there may be a circulation pump that ensures remote taps deliver 'instant' hot water; this needs to be timed so it only comes on when it is needed.
