Hi there, I'm currently overseas in NZ/Australia and I'll be heading back to the UK at the beginning of March. I'm currently Gas Safe Registered with the usual combo of safety, boilers, fires, cookers & water heaters.

I've been considering sitting the meters course when I get back to the UK - I live in Glasgow, but have found places varying by quite a difference in price. Can anyone who's completed the course before tell me if there's a lot of training involved or not? - The course is half day in most places so I'd assume not. I was also going to get myself a copy of Corgi's "Gas Meters" handbook to read on my long flight home but they only send to the UK & Ireland. Convienient!

So if anyone's got any heads up for this course that I should be doing it would be much appreciated,

Cheers

Andrew

it is generally booked as a full day, 1/2 day training and 1/2 day assessment, if you know your stuff you will generally get through it a bit quicker than that, basically if you have CCN1 you have covered the bulk of MET1, ie removing a meter safely , capping pipes and meter, temp cont. bond, testing, purging and theory papers about 30 questions i think, i work in South Lanarkshire College East Kilbride, phone us on 01355 270750 to see about places/price

Thanks for the info - will make a phone call and see what's available. I'm sure someone had told me there wasn't a great deal more with the meters than CCN1 but I'll get my notes out from that and check them over.

My stop in Australia, now New Zealand, is part of a round the world ticket I bought last year. I had completed my apprenticeship and worked for the same organisation once I'd qualified doing gas servicing . . . when the temporary contract I was on was due to finish I thought I'd pop down here for a look before committing to any sort of working visa.

I've seen enough in Australia to fancy coming back for a crack at it in the future, but it's an expensive place to travel around if you're not working - hence one reason I'm heading back. My ACS certificate still has three years left on it - so I think I should use it while I can.

Besides, it's nearly Spring . . . things will be looking up!
