Metal tank for hot water overflow in loft?

Hello, we just moved to a new house and have a boiler and a solid fuel burner that feed a hot water cylinder with a Dunsley heat exchanger. There is water tank in the loft in case there is too much hot water. My plumber said this plastic tank should be replaced with a metal tank in case the water gets so hot it will cause the plastic tank to collapse. The previous owners had this system installed around 10 years ago and used the solid burner all the time with no issues. I have had a look for metal tanks and nobody seems to supply them. Is the plastic tank ok or does it need replacing?

Iv heard of fitting a copper (metal) float instead of a plastic one due to the heat & copper overflow but not a metal tank....

In the old days they used to use galvanized tanks but you only need likes if fibre glass tanks for uncontrollable heat sources like wood burners certainly not domestic gas / hot water. Unless your thermostats aren't working lol

We have an uncontrollable log burner. Are you saying that the modern version of the galvanised tank is a fiberglass one?

This is similar to the tank that I used. The idea is that it wont melt should it all go a little bit 'Pete Tong'!

a metal tank would be best, a fibreglass one that meets the required bs will be fine to. make sure the float and overflow pipe are metal too.

Yeh a galvanised or copper tank is the way to go. Still fitting them over in Ireland. A crowd called Galco make them still. Not sure if they have a branch over your way. Your local merchants if any good should b able to point ye in d right direction
