The Trainee

Hi all, as i am learning the trade and have got a good knowlege and understanding of the systems i had covered i decided to fix the dripping filling pipe in the toilet cistern.
However on closer inspection the cold feed pipe to the cistern has no service valve fitted, although we are moving from this flat soon, this kind of oversight isn't good or should not be missed in the first place.
Am i right in saying this? cheers all😕

You will get this alot get used to isolating from the mains or the tank🙄

Cheers, take it the pie will have to be drained off via draw offs?

You said you had a good understanding this is not the case if you don't even know how to turn water off in your own flat sorry mate but think before you post

i can turn off the water, just making sure before i do it as no drain tap on pipe so making a suggestion that might be the the way to empty the pipe

Generally you don't🙄

The small bit of water falling out of the pipe as you uncouple it can be caught in a bucket or pan or that.

very well will try that. as i am still training maybe the simple things will elude me🙄

Yes they will as they did us all. College will teach you the very basics its up to you to continue your training (or get an apprenticeship - good luck) you are doing well asking for advice on here.

Thank you, its a slow process that indeed has taught me the basics of systems including storage systems and combi systems. i am sure with your guidance it shall prove rewarding.. regards

You will find many places without service valves. I think it was only in about the last 20 years or so they have been required to comply with Water Regs.

The thing is most houses are well over 20 years old, so you will need to learn how to turn off from the storage tank or the water main, clear air locks and a variety of other things required to turn off a supply and get it going again.

Its good fun!!

Good Fortune!!

Dont matter now as we are moving next month so some one else can have that luxery

why not, the new place has a full direct central heating system. think ill leave that one. 😀
