Wonder if somebody could help me out. Got a customer with one of the new style stop taps. It's basically a plastic cover on the internal side with a small black lever. Then on the external side is the water meter with the isolator that is attached to the internal lever. So in effect the small black lever in the internal side is the stop tap. This level is turning but doesn't turn off the supply at all, so the customer is relaying on the stop tap in the street. My question is, can you replace this lever yourself or is it a job for the water board? The space is minimal so i can't just fit another stop tap after as there is no room whatsoever. Hope that makes sense, have got pics if it doesn't!

Try tightening the screw in the middle of the black lever.

P.s your customer does know its a quarter turn to isolate and not a turn and turn jobby ....

Remove the screw with a ph3 screwdriver, take the plastic lever off and replace it with one off a washing machine valve (if it's the same type), they often snap around the back rendering them useless.

Can you post the pic anyway, I want to see what this new stoptap looks like.

its not a new stop tap. its the one behind the panel in the wall that water board fit. it works like a washmac valve but the thumbturn is bigger.
need a services key to open the panel usually. often it has the meter in the same box, but in this case it seems the meter is in external side of cavity and isolation on internal side
