I have contractors over right now redoing my bathroom. They've installed a Moen faucet over the sink, which I am having some trouble with.

It works just fine for normal use, but suppose I wanted to clean out some sort hose. If I put my hand up to the faucet to create a seal between the faucet and the hose I'm trying to clean (increasing the pressure of the water), water starts to pour out of the bottom of my faucet into my bathroom cupboard. Hopefully I've described it well enough that you can understand what I mean :D

I brought this up with the contractors, and all they gave me were some funny looks and some completely unsatisfactory answers:

One of them said: "Well, that's just the flow of water"
Ok thanks, but I want to know why the flow of water includes my cupboard!

The other said: "Well usually, you just put your hands under the water and wash them"
OK, thanks again, but I would like to be able to also use it to clean out hose-like objects like I have been able to do with every other faucet I've ever used.

So clearly, these guys are idiots and of no help to me, so I was wondering if someone here could maybe help me figure out what they did wrong, and fix it myself.

Thanks.

They havent tightened the inlets enough. Monoblocks will have two hoses going into them turn them clockwise as tight as they will go.

Thanks a lot for the quick response. Now the question is do I walk in and fix it right in front of the contractors, tell them how to fix it, or wait for them to leave? :p

make them a cup of tea and put some salt in it. when they spit the tea out tell them to do the job properly. If this doesnt work smash him in the nose with the butt of your gun and cut off his little finger , tell him his thumb is next . ( got this great idea from reservoir dogs of all places ) ;)

Hey Dosef

I will bet that the plumber has not bedded the tap in mastic, and is relying on a rubber
washer fitted behind the back nut, which does not always work,
In your case you are allowing water to splash/ puddle on the tap platform which is
then making its way down the unsealed tap hole,
