What on average is a plumbers pay? is it good and can you make a good living from being a plumber? i just want to know what sort of life you can have being a plumber and th type of money you get?
Thanks

hi celtibhoy

Well yes you can make a good living from being a plumber but not as much as the stories say like 100,000 a year inless you employe others.

rates of pay vary from company to company if you work direct from £6 to £15+ ph all on your quals etc. I was working for a company and was getting £11 ph and i have not got gas behind me but they are no longer around got bought out and new company droped pay to £7.50 and too much a drop for me so have gone self employed.

I enjoy my job in plumbing and my wife will tell i enjoy it too much but i have 3 kids and wife and we live comfortably better than dole etc. This is just my opion but i am a novice compard to the othet chaps on this site and if you do go on to become a plumber after alot years training this site is great for advice and has many experinced plumber here willing to help you.

kindest regards

mitch

cheers :)
when you say comfortabbly more than the dole what exactly do you mean?
Sounds stupid but what type of car do you have lol that sort of stuff, like can you afford a nice fancy car being a plumber and a big house etc....

Being a plumber is never going to make you rich, but it can be a stepping stone to riches if you have the buseness acumen,
people I know have become millionaires from it, all of them have taken big risks in terms of commitments, their homes have often been on the
line, they may have been bankrupted once or twice, some are on their second or third wives,
My father when he was not a soldier was a plumber, I to am a plumber,
My son now 41 years old is a plumber,
He mostly works on his own, last year he paid £17k tax
The tools and equipment he owns cost at least £100k (includes a 360 digger and several jetters and drain lining gear),
On the other hand my son in law paid £25k tax, and his only equipment is a pen
and he probably nicked that off his boss,

As for the life it can be good, I found myself owning a property outright back in 1980 I was 40 but then I sustained a back injury which set me back,
My story goes on, but the moral is you can not rely on plumbing alone to make you rich in terms of money, but I am sure it can make you rich in other ways,
Yeah right says my grandson who is at uni doing something to do with sports science
(he is into golf),

can you afford a nice fancy car being a plumber and a big house etc....

Depends on the context of youer question, if you think your going to make six figures - forget it!, £40k may be possible if you work hard, £25-£30K if you just do your basic hours and £20 - £25k employed.

buts it like any trade/job its what you make the works there you just got to work hard at it, but dont expect flash cars without at least working for it, remember the average uk wage is only around £22k so its quite a good trade when you look at it that way!

Hi. Its like any other trade. Employed plumbers rates vary depending on The Company they work for, area, their skill bank and knowledge, responsibilities, bonus schemes, and the ability to work with pace, etc.
Self employed plumbers in general, take the gamble to earn more gross. However i does not always follow that the take home is that great. Having the skills and knowledge is one thing but unless you can turn it into cash by being quick at what you do, and work all hours you will not be mentioned in the rich list. Good luck

cheers all ;)

SO what your sayin is if you get into the business side of it and run your own business you can end up earning a lot more? But on average a plumbers pay is still good and plumbing is a good trade to get into?

Work hard and you can earn good money! At the moment i am bustin my balls but pullin a grand a week! I have 1 lad workin for me and he earns me money every week too! i am leavin home at 6am and returning home no earlier than 7am, but when you have a mortgage it has to be done. Once this horrible recession starts to take a turn upwards, hopefully the prices will go up and the travellin will go down, one thing that will never change is the hard graft you need to put in to get your money. If your work is above standard which i always aim for then you will be ok. if you are a standard plumber with little enthusiasm then expect to earn 300 a week

Cheers all ;)
Is it hard to get started as a plumber?
And what is it like when your just starting?
