hi there, my first post! hope some one can help me, i have been asked to move a boiler - a condensing alpha - and was not sure whether or not i have to register it with the gsr. ive got a feeling i will, but not sure. thanks in advance

yer it is on an outside wall at the mo, and he is having an extension built, so it needs to move across the extension to the new outside wall

Imo, no, and as long as you are GSR and any new flues etc conform to MI, then it shouldnt be a problem,

Imo

in that case no , but id be checking its fully working where it is now before you move it.

yep like bod says defo check its working fully first ,as it happened to my mate moved one never checked and wouldnt work again he ended up having to work for nothing to pay for the boiler and a few months later found out a few people had been out to it ,but too late by then as couldnt prove anything

i looked at the flue and its hole has been cored out, and its the same thickness of wall to go through on the extension, so i should not damage it getting it out and i will change the o rings in it for new ones. im thought i heard some where that moving an existing boiler needs to be registered as if a new installation - maybe i ring gsr in the morning to clarify. thanks for your reply

Gas safe will not help, its building control you need to get in touch with as its there requirements and they do vary depending on what council the property is under

don't be to surprised after its moved that some fault has developed. moved a boiler earlier this year, working fine before, couple of separate faults from moving it.

he said he will need to get the extension signed off after all the work has been done, building inspector presumably will come round and have a look, so a home owners certificate / cp12 would do the job for the inspector in your opinion? i am registered

did you have to register the boiler after you moved it?
never gave that a second thought to be honest, but I am now. the job was at a customers address but under supervision from the college assessor as part of my NVQ. both he and the GSR fitter i work with never said anything about building control. having said that it was still in the same room and still on the same wall, only moved up and accross.

i dont think that counts as moving it, in the eyes of the law. i will be moving this one from an outside toilet to the kitchen - still to be built which will be another room.

yes that's what I thought, only reading these posts got me thinking. I think the best advice has been given, to check with the local building control to cover yourself

joe bloggs can fit his own boiler (and does) the manufacture will honour any guarantee without it being registered.
the building control requires registration of building working weather it be a porch or a new boiler
The registration is purely for building control

i moved a boiler 3 wks ago from kitchen to garage, i phoned gas safe to ask if it was ok to move it, as it was a non condensing 'd' band boiler, i thought they might have said no it's not allowed , you'll have to fit an 'A' rated boiler but they said it was ok to fit. i asked if the boiler had to be registered and he said no, it should have already have been registered when it was first fitted.
