Hi, I'm moving a rad to a new location in my office room in my new home that has a duel heating system. Oil and multi fuel stove. Before in my last house, I did move a rad when doing a bathroom refit and it was a simple process.

What I did was drain the system at the oil burner. Cut into the 1/2' copper pipes and move to other side of the room with copper and compression fittings. I was not comfortable with using solder on pipes with water in them. Compression I never had no issues. I filled the system up again, baked all rads and heating was working as normal after moving the rad.

Now that I have a duel system in my new home, will the process be the same. I drain system as before, move the rad to the other side of the room , fill the system up and bleed all rads.

What worries me, is maybe if air gets trapped in the multi fuel stove it can become an issue.

A cousin of mine is a plumber and he has suggested I use a freeze kit if I'm not comfortable with draining the system. Would anyone recommend these kits or should I just drain the system.
 
Is the rad in question upstairs or down? If it’s upstairs then you will only need to drain the water out of the top half of the system.
However you do do this make sure the stove is not lit and cold before draining. Make sure the oil boiler is turned off as well.

Hi, yes the rad is downstairs. The boiler will be off and stove not lit or warm. I won't light it the night before I do this.

Is it as simple as just filling up a single system as I have did previously in my last home. No issues with the stove getting airlocked?
 
Sorry for the delayed response, I went shopping for myself and mother. Yes the refill will be the same. The pipework from the stove going upstairs should remain filled, unless you drained from the stove that is. Hopefully when the system refills you won’t encounter any problems.

I will drain from the burner. Isn't this going to drain everything, rads, stove etc...

Is there a way of plugging the heating header tank and when I cut into the pipes, they won't empty
 
You mean drain from the boiler? That will drain the boiler and any pipework above the drain port. I imagine your stove has 28mm gravity pipes going upstairs. Those pipes should stay full but hard to say without seeing the system pipework.
You can get blanking plugs yes. They create a vacuum so no water will flow.
