How difficult is this?

Its in my garden on the right about 5 meters from the house sitting on a slab next to the fence. I want it on the back wall of the house exactly at the point where the cables and pipes come out of the wall.

It can be de-gassed, disconnected, moved. the cables and pipes leaving the house can be trimmed to length and reconnected & re-charged. the excess pipes and cables can be left underground.

I have been quoted some ridiculous prices by companies. Just want to pay someone cash or do it myself.

I'm not a plumber by any means, but am always willing to try things depending on how complicated and safe they are.

Any thoughts or tips would be great. Or even if you know some one who can help.

I live in Epsom

Think about if more than one person has quoted a ridiculous price then maybe it should tell you that its more work than your thinking ! Your paying for the service !

No its exactly what i said in the original post. I've had an itemized quote. Just think the work is being over valued by these companies. I no it wouldn't take a compliant person that long at all and materials are going to be minimal

How many quotes have you had, what's your comments based on re it not taking a lot of doing? As far as I'm aware it's a specialised job, it has to be degassed and the gasses captured before anything else is done. I'm afraid it's one of those jobs that people can price accordingly, as they are thin on the ground.

You're in a position that you will have to pay your money or it would stay put.

But as on31ll has said, put a requirement on the section of the forum.

Good luck.

Most ASHP's are "self contained" units so shouldn't need de-gassing. So should be like a boiler move.......... but AFAIA it will need re-commissioning (the technical bit), and re-filling with an anti-freeze mix

Air to water the outside unit is self contained. But I always thought the air to air is piped up with refrigerant.

if you told us the quote details then you would probably get an answer fm on here, as your idea of ridiculous might be our idea of normal rates.

self contained meaning you can shut it of and just disconnect it, move it a re connect. Looking at it thats what I think.

Its air to water.

The quotes were done over the phone / email and they never visited, so not sure they realise its iar to water.

this is one of them.

The units will need to be de-gassed before being re-sited nearer the house
The electrics will then be altered to suit and re-tested
The heat pump will then be re-charged, before being re-commissioned

Subtotal £1050
VAT £210
Total £1260

I dont want to pay that, especially if I can shut shut it of and move it my self.

Do you know if the heat pump is a spit system or monoblock?
Monoblock units only have water connections and electrical power & control wiring. Split systems have refrigerant pipework.
It may be beneficial to post what make and model of heatpump it is.
Regardless, you will require a minimum distance from any obstruction (i.e. the wall) in order to let air circulate around the unit otherwise you will get problems with freezing.

Its a daikin altherma.

It has to power cables and 2 pipes

Daikin altherma comes in both Monoblock or Split, HT (split) or LT (monoblock or split).
Do you know the model number from the external unit?
A picture of the data badge would help. :smile5:

You cannot move it yourself if it is the split type as it contains refrigerant and unless you are 2079 (f gas) then you could be heavily fined for any release into the atmosphere. Tradesmen pay a lot of money to go on these courses so they can undertake these types of types which maybe a reason the price seems high?

Hi, on the side it sais...

ERHQ006BAV3

MFG NO J004206

Split is when you have the out door unit and the indoor hydro box?

I have that, so im guessing its split???

What are the implications of moving this?

Looks like you have a LT split. You need someone who has their F-Gas Certificate. The refrigerant circuit will need pumped down, pipework altered etc etc. Then the unit recommissioned. Its not something you can do yourself I'm afraid.
Your previous quotes seem reasonable in this respect.
