Moving rads and carpets

might seem like a stupid question......but is there a tool out there to make it easier to re-fit the carpet to the gripper??.... eg. i moved a radiator the weekend and when i was re-fitting the carpet the customer commented on how i was using flat head screwdriver to push the carpet back onto the gripper. i had to agree it didn't look very professional!!! but it's something i've never really stopped and thought about, so hopefully one of you can give me some advice.

either curl the carpet under and then plop over the gripper and push it forward or there is a carpit fitters tool ime sure but most times the above method and then do the double footed jump forward and ur feet push it into place

The carpet boys stretch the carpet tight and then lay it over the gripper with the edge curled up the skirting board, press the carpet down onto the spikes and then they use a wide bolster to push the carpet edge down between the gripper and skirting board, the secret is to have just the right amount of "extra" carpet.

Its called a carpet knee kicker! Not a joke by the way! Have a look in the Screwfix site.

The pro carpet fitters all have one in their tool kit. You can buy a cheaper hand one for the occasional job about £17 or shop around, I think its called a hand carpet stretcher.
