Hello, whats a good multimeter to get, I've been looking at the fluke116? Any good cheers

I just have a cheap auto ranging centre brand one at the mo but the ex tech ones are good.

I've got a 116 or is a 117 never let me down, even my sparks has borrowed it on occasion!

If you not electrician, than why over pay for FLUKE|?
I have bought mine on ebay for £12. Has everything I need and much more and Works Gr8.

Plenty info on this topic if you do a search JG123.

Why?
Reliability, accuracy, safety, & think they still have the 3 year warranty, although never needed to use it.

If you want to trust the readings from a 12 quid bit of ebay junk then that's your call.

Just my opinion though, if you are doing much fault finding and checking electrics go for a Fluke 114/115/116. Great units.

Have had my fluke 177 for 10+ years now and never had any problems with it, cheap ones never seem so well put together. Like anything you get what you pay for

I don't disagree with you but my theory with anything is if you buy it right first time then you don't ever (not for the foreseeable future) buy it again.

I'm like this with everything, cameras, spanners, grips, tv's (not transvestites, I get these as cheap as I can!).

Most of the time I think I'm unlucky, if I ever buy anything cheap I end up throwing it away because its not up to the job and buying again.

Kewtech do a decent range of meters at affordable prices and they are identical to Robin which is comparable with fluke

Thanks for your replys everyone, personally when I buy tools I buy the best I can afford as they do a better job, more reliable e.t.c never buy cheap! I will get the fluke, also liking the ck magma technician bag very much indeed.

Spot on there JG I have made that mistake a few times and learned my lesson the hard way , example buying 2 head torches for £19.99 i used them a few times and ended up slinging them in the bin also a chippy mate bought these pump pliers which he thought were the muts nuts for £20 ,Yep bought them also and there are still sitting in the garage total rubbish , I suppose it didnt help with my mates recommendations as he had a serious tendion infliction and had a hand like a vice grip even after having his finger removed. regarding the multimeter I bought the fluke 116 and have since replaced it with a TPI 270 i think which is the biz. It has a few extra things like a clamp meter and also a buzzer that picks up a live circuit non contact , like a volt stick

have a fluke 116 but dont use it and bought a TPI 270 which is better and has more functions lol
