Hi,

This coming Monday I am will be doing my first ever Gas Job. I need to fit a Neff Gas Hob. Any pointers very much appreciated, like how do I connect the rigid 15mm copper pipe to the appliance ?

My planned work flow;

LetBy
Tightness
Turn Gas off at ECV it no gas isolation value

Remove Hob
Fit isolation Valve if one not present
Redo any pipework
Fit Hob

Tightness Test
Working Pressure

Thank you

Steve

They usually come with a male threaded elbow and washer , you will need a female to 15mm compression fitting which will go straight on to your pipe work, keep it tight otherwise the cooker may not fit underneath if pipework aint flush , good luck I hate fitting hobs

same as above dont forget your gas ptfe and a bit of jointing compund (just what I use)

make it nice and tidy then you would be able to take the gas safe inspector round when you get your probationary inspection.
are there any other gas appliances?
if you have disconnected the gas you will need to get these purged and relit, with a quick check that all is well

Remove the meter before soldering
Gas ptfe
Check clearances

Take a look at part 12880 on BES - combines your hob connector and gas cock in a single fitting. Not much use for Monday now but might be handy in the future. Two things no-one ese has mentioned are demonstrating the operation of the thing to the customer after install, and remembering to notify the job on the gassafe web site.

be carefull if you have to alter any pipe work, remember if there is a cooker underneath it will need to be able to slot back in

thats a mistake you do once, after the embarrassment of having to explain why youre having to re do all the piework because the cooker no longer fits you remember the next time

As above, you won't be able to do working pressure at the hob unless you cut in a test piece so just gas rate it. Some people check burner pressure using an injector though!

Neff are a good make of hob, so be careful with your sticky mitts leaving fingerprints on the surfaces :)

P.s Good luck

very very suprised youve passed your gas and never fitted or come across a hob before while being out with a gsr engineer,no disrespect but its shocking your asking something so simple on here plus youve forgot gas rate on ye list plus you,ll find people fit hobs even when there not suppose to ie plumbers kitchen fitters which is why am wondering why youve not done it before

you have missed clearences from other kitchen furniture, others have added other things, not sure if they have added this one, if you have CKR1 you must have had some experience/training to pass the assessment?

Hi,

I should of been more detailed in my original post,

I know about gas rating, fsds (this hob has one on each burner), ventilation, clearances, purging, removing gas meter if doing any pipework etc etc etc - I am very detailed and analytical when performing any job - so apologies I will be more precise in my posting next time.

I have serviced many hobs but not actually fitted one myself - hence the question.

The website 'grahamep' pointed out looks like a good place to get supplies and especially the part that he highlighted "

"Take a look at part 12880 on BES - Thank you - That site is a keeper :)

and also the comment about pipework so that the cooker fits back properly.

The reason for the post is that this will be my first job so I was double double checking. Hope I have not sounded stupid by asking such a question.

sorry mate but if you asking questions about something as simple as a hob god knows how your gunner cope with a boiler or a heat only boiler ive been on this site a few yrs now and this is the first time ave been really shocked by a question by someone who passed there acs if youve not fitted a hob how have you passed ckr 1 as kirk says, when i passed mine i had to fit about 10 of them and take them to bits and put it all back plus watch someone doing it and fault finding on them and do cpa on them to check they were safe

This just shows how variable training can be from centre to centre. Sometimes I feel that I managed to sneak in to the industry through a window of opportunity when checks on actual practical experience were small. I worked on a cooker or three in training never touched a gas hob until I was presented with one to install as a paid job. Came unstuck very quickly with things like the 'pipe clearances around the oven' chestnut and no-one told me about needing to reset the simmer setting when converting to LPG. Much of my initial training on elements seemed to consist of having the phrase 'read the manufacturers instructions' drummed into me.

There is nothing wrong with Benzoni asking the question if he wants to double check. Perhaps those of us with more experience should simply consider this a good way of making a real difference to gas safety.

lpg is a diffrent ball game, from jet sizes to the way the gas lies the amount of hobs i seen fitted with 10mmm pipe cos its easier to bend and have obviously not been gas rated as they have undersized pipework, like youve said graham training must be vastly diffrent everywere altho i was told it was suppose to be the same cos the training board that can come in anytime and check on the center/college

To get cookers ACS don't you have to have completed 3 installs of cookers in your portfolio???

ACS portfolio has 13 jobs or 20, depends what you get at the end, if you do 20 jobs one you get gas fires and cookers, 13 jobs one you need to do cookers and fires separately but no need any further portfolio.
