Hi,
Seeing as there has apparently been a bit of a clear out with members leaving and those of us staying are here to support the forum, and help to answer questions, why do we still have name tags?

I couldn't care less if I've got sooper dooper plumber after my name, but as we're all here to give advice, we should all be on an even keel. My name tag is jumping from esteemed plumber to nearly established plumber and having these "titles" is going to discourage posters seeking advice from experienced members like myself as these tags make us sound like total newbies.

Can I just have plumber after my name please. I've worked bloody hard over 40 years to earn that title.

We've had the argument already. We seemed to get through with the meh member scenario but I agree with you. The tags can be a nuisance. They're only based on likes which you could get for anything, it doesn't necessarily mean you give out good advice (you do, just saying hypothetically) and members seeking advice could be swayed by advice given from an esteemed member over someone without the tag even though that advice may he wrong.

The likes you get are directly related to the content you give.

While you lot on here do tend to click like a bit like facebook, so one person has insulted another but three of you see it as a witty jab, so click like - 97% of them are dished out by people who have received advice.

You don't have the statistics or metrics. So you're just guessing again @Craig Watson

The fact is, they're already used well. And they'll get used better with guidance now. I was shocked to see how trashy some threads were on here when I came over. I think it's always had this weird cult-like gang from years back. And while the staff walked out when I stopped them getting personal details of arms access (not sure why they'd want those but that was the problem in the end) they didn't take all the plonkers with them. Which is what the forum needed.

Over time it seemed acceptable to click like just because of a foul below the belt jab had been had.

That's not what they're there for. And not what they'll be used for ongoing.

I'm still playing around with the tags here. They become worthless if everybody has them. So a line needs to be drawn. And the bar is set reeeeally low but still some good people, with good posts, get clouded by the others.

So it was more for me to spot than anything. I'm clearly not going to promote "Nearly Est" as an actual thing to try and achieve. So when spotting it, surely you didn't think 'oh, I'm a nearly Est'.

I think I set that tag at 2:30am and had to be out early to go to Construction Week, we had a tiler in the top 5 fixers of the year, and an electrician. The tiler won. Sparky didn't turn up. Didn't have a plumber even enter. There's a surprise lol Mean sods. :D :D - And I've only just got in. Got empty belly so will be back on tomorrow now no doubt. :)

So wind your neck in Craig. Go take a walk for us all so we can crack on. :)

As for @Cailean - Sure mate. Leave it with me. As I said it was never going to be left. I wanted to get my head around how close some people are, and how to deal with the shyte amongst the good threads here. I'm considering erasing all posts with less than X words in them. That'll increase your ratios - and show that the longer posts stay put over time, so are worthy of writing. The one-word replies really should just be thoughts in your head or something. Why we need to keep going on to write "I agree" everywhere online, I don't know.

From a tag point of view though, no amount of tags will show whether you're a newbie or experienced. It's your content. And you have 342 posts. That's not really enough to go off, or to change a whole group of people for.

PM me in future mate. :) You'll only attract idiots to threads like these.

I must say Dan, you want us to respect each other and talk to each other nicely. It would be nice for you to lead by example. While I have disagreed with your recent methods I have not been rude to you. Telling me to wind my neck in and insinuating I'm an idiot, not very polite is it.

People who have the right respect and attitude towards me and others on the forum are always saying how nice I am. :)

I wonder why it's always you I'm replying to like that? 🤪

Get a life mate. I mean that in the nicest way possible. Do you have a dog? If not, perhaps get one they're good company.

I honestly can't work out why you have so much time for trolling.

Retired maybe, single probably, caught up in the whole 'well i am behind a keyboard so I don't think I'd ever see them face to face' lark. Any friends at all? Do you chip in on their discussions randomly half way through with your view about what each of them should do about their discussion?

Maybe it's my fault I've got so many lonely people on here? Did I put an ad up somewhere targeting them and I forget now it was so long ago?

Not sure.

I haven't the time to find out all these things because I'm actually busy with people who appreciate my work and are enjoying the things I create.

I tell you what it might be. Usually is.

Did a mate of a mate give you a trusted advisor tag years ago, and then I've come in, noticed youve all tarnished it's name, and you have all lost them now? And hold a grudge still?

Not sure.

Either way. Leave out your comments unless you are helping the OP. I can't say it any more ways.

Do you get it? Is that sinking in? Did your reply to the OP help him? Or wind the issue (which isn't about you, you haven't got a tag) up?

You tell me.

You numpty.

You won't troll me mate. 14 years I've handled worse than you. They ALL give up. There are no giggles when the truth gets pointed out eh? You lonely old sod.

Are we done now? Last thread we are doing that in now mate. Get a life and come on help with plumbing or I'll Damn you off myself. You're ruining everybody else's threads. They're not yours to ruin.

I haven't got a life or any mates or a dog or anything better to do and I barely deserve the title of plumber and I still had to click out of this thread and find the last one I started to see what it says by my name. I genuinely had no idea.

It says plumber.

This is all tedious.

:D

We just have some people trying to wind up threads I think mate.

I don't endeavour to try find out why. But they were definitely doing it.

We've given some people some time off. We'll see if they've gained a life off the forum in the meantime and see how they post when they're back.

So apparently, making this post has opened up a can of worms and fed the birds. This was not my intention. I was only asking for my name tag to be removed as I don't like titles. I'm a plumber and that's all the title I need.

Now my replies offering advice to those asking for help are now being moderated before approval.
Why?

After the so called clique left, those that jumped on everyones posts for no reason, I was under the assumption that we were all on an even keel now and our help and advice that we are freely giving was valued.
Apparently not.

If @Dan, you lose the experienced members, you lose the heart of the forum, and more importantly you lose a wealth of experience that can offer forum users the answers that they seek.

I wish you well and the forum all the best for the future.

50% of the forum is in pre moderation. We have members joining that are plumbers and are posting 50 times the amount all the 'regulars' (cliquey people) put together post.

I want them gone if they are trolling or sabotaging the place. So we can move on.

Your can of worms you mention is 2 people out of 12,500. Your thread and your views affected the forum very very little. :)

All the best with you and yours in the future also.

Don't you worry about me mate. I've done this a long time and heard it all before. And we have always come back stronger. We have the content.

Other members value your contributions not me mate. Those are the ones you're helping.

I owe you nothing. I'm hosting you a free place to chat plumbing. You're not giving me that.
