Need confirmation I've fitted compression

Since I had an extension built 4 years ago, there has been a leak behind the wall where the soil pipe and all pipes are. Putting hand in small access hole at bottom I could feel Rockwool felt damp and has started to affect plaster and skirting. This weekend I broke into the wall and found that the waste pipe going into the soil pipe was too short. Ridiculous how it could have been left like that, water pours out. To rectify it I have fitted a compression fitting.

One thing I am not entirely happy about. The white pipe is new 40mm and fits the compression fitting. The black pipe seems very slightly thicker as the rubber didn’t slide on as easy and it will not tighten up fully. Could it be the black pipe is thicker, is there another size bigger than 40mm and if so, can I get a compression fitting that can join both pipes.

It isn’t leaking at the moment but wanted it to be perfect before plastering over.

Any advice appreciated.

No you’re fine compression covers a range of sizes, if it was pushed in fully- tightened down and doesn’t leak - carry on and reinstate the wall.

Yes in answer to your question. It sounds like you have 43mm solvent weld pipework (Black) and 41mm push fit pipework (white). Both are classed as 1.5” and the fitting is universal designed to take and join both. As Ben-gee has said, if it fits and doesn’t leak then all is good. What you need to make sure of is that the black pipe is all the way in, and can you see any clips, otherwise it may sag and leak again in the future. Also the white pipe joining the soil pipe - is that secure enough?

Re the white pipe length. I cut that just over 1/2" longer then the black piece I cut off. Plus the compression fitting makes the pipes another 1/2" longer, so the white pipe is in the boss about 1" now. Question on the rubber boss, does it degrade over time? I'm thinking I put an access door here just in case, what do you think?

Not sure what you mean about clips, do you mean to support the pipe? If so what kind of clips?

If an access door in that position is aesthetically acceptable to you, then it'll do no harm of course and will give peace of mind with it being accessible in future in case of future problems and to inspect. I would add that access if it was me for those reasons.

Solvent weld would of been my choice expansion and contraction of plastic waste pipes can often happen and make sure it bracketed well .

Yes rubber will degrade over time, however it should last a number of years before it does. Yes I'd put a door in as @Stigster said if aesthetically pleasing, also you now have a compression fitting in there as well not to mention if it ever becomes blocked.

Think I'll go with an access door and see if it can be done as nicely as possible.
That way I can proactively check from time to time to make sure all in order.
