I have had a new boiler installed which is noisier than the old one when it fires up. I understand that this is normal for modern boilers but it is proving irritating. The boiler is located in a cupboard in a bedroom. The boiler is a Main 24 HE. I am thinking of building an acoustic casing within the boiler cupboard to try and minimise the noise level. My query is about ventilation for this boiler. The cupboard door does not have any ventilation - do I assume that it it is ventilated via the flue and I needn't worry about enclosing the boiler?

Thanks

Steve

If the boiler is rumbling on start up then you need to get the installer back to carry out adjustments. Also, the Main 24 HE is a band B boiler I believe so I am wondering why you have had it fitted when all new boilers now need to be band A?

Always revert to the MI bluefly - fitted 3 in the last week without any noise issues?

The instructions are not particularly clear for a lay person. On the matter of ventilation it says:

"Where the boiler is installed in a cupboard or compartment, no air vents are required for cooling purposes providing the minimum dimensions below are maintained".

Sides 15 mm
Top 200 mm
Bottom 50 mm
Front 30 mm

Do I assume these dimensions specify the minimum distance between the boiler casing and the compartment walls?

With regard to noise - the boiler was serviced by British Gas a couple of months after installation. (I am a homecare customer). Installation was fine and everything working OK but he suggested that the modern boilers are a bit noisier than the old types. If I had thought about it at the time I would have asked about soundproofing/encasing the boiler.

The new boiler is a 24HE A range - Band A. It isn't a rumbling on start up - it just runs a bit noisier than the old one.

The new boiler is a 24HE A range - Band A.

Hi Blueflying - is your boiler a heating only boiler ? (ie, not a combi - you have a cylinder for the hot water) If it is, then it could well be a band A appliance. Its actually a Baxi Solo HE dressed in a Main badge.

If it is a combi, and its a 24HE, then I am afraid you have been sold a pup, because the Main 24HE combi was band B. The band A replacement is a 25 Eco.
