evening. looking for suggestions, solutions or advice........... anything had 4 different people look already

how the story goes, the house was housing association (we now bought it) and they fitted new grant eco wall hung 12-16 boiler to our old syetem (y-plan). old boiler packed up but did work, now since we had this boiler fitted 1 rad never worked...... but did if heating system was left to run for very long time at flat out (convection and arron services which do housing association heatings solution to the problem) when boiler was first installed they had problems with water returning around the boiler, now only upstairs or downstairs rads work if either is shut off.......... we have shut down rads upstairs to get 1 rad dwnstairs to work. we have had new pump fitted, pipes disconnected and blown down.. cleaning chemicals ran through for days........ they did power flush it when they installed it. just stumped what it could be..... one plumber of the 4 were had out suggested heat exchanger in boiler, so we even had grant out but they reckon installion problem in pipes to boiler but one guy looked into it and blew down them............. they were clear. grant guy reckons a blocked elbow in airing cupboard. grant did take water tests but dont get results till next week.

system has 4 rads up and 4 down. sometimes there's no hot water. house gets cold and i have 8month old daughter.

boiler gets very hot quickly so does the feed but return is only luke warm ish. 1 guy suggested heat exchanger was blocked and holding flow hence getting out very quickly............ it does shut it self off then.

so for essay really looking for help..... hopefully you get what i mean.. ha

thanks jonathan

So the majority of the pipework remains? and the system worked ok before? (obviously before boiler started playing up). Has anyone simply suspected it could be air in the pipework?

Try turning all rads off apart from 1 at the lockshield and running the heating - this will have full pump pressure on the system and 1 rad only and may move some air either into the rad (which will need bleeding out) or back to the boiler and out via the automatic air vent, this is will also prove each rad gets hot on its own.

Open another lockshield and close the 1st rad down - rinse and repeat till all are done (1 rad at a time). then open all valves and see what happens.

If this works then it was just air trapped in the pipework

The heating system will need balancing after this

Hope this helps

If not :(
