I'm a gsr by trade. Basically finally getting rid of rayburn, new system boiler and unvented. Which boiler would you guys have, grant vortex system or wb camray system utility. Cheers Simon

Grant every time.

Camray not been made for at least 10 years
WB not great these days
Firebird - you gotta be kidding! Are you a masochist?
Warmflow - ditto
Trianco - OK but will they be still owned by the same people in a year's time
Grandee - Ha Ha you're a comedian

I was leaning towards grant tbh. Oil boilers are moire expensive than gas. Me and my master installing it, the grant is 145 kg. He got his oil so let him do the boiler

Yes there's also the Rayburn 680KCD which is a cracking unit with a range cooker and has the advantages of condensing.

The downside - of course it's the price tag!

and itwould fit where the old one came out of :) price wise tho, it will still be working when your replacing the oil boiler next time

I like the theory of a Rayburn, buy the reality is they are thirsty

????????????? same as a normal boiler, plus they can do your cooking, heat the room its in, dry your clothes and they arent thirsty when set up and used properly

I have a Rayburn 460KB with a Megaflo 200 litre unit and it's no more thirsty than a regular conventional boiler.

The Rayburn Heatrangers are completely different to the old Nouvelles and have a far more efficient method of combustion plus time and thermostat controls.

I think the 680KCD is A rated

and you also have happy pets:) occassionally if the missus is ill, I'll find her lying asleep on the dogs mega cushion with a clean rug laid out in front of our aga and all the dogs and cats looking at her on their bed!! lol

No you won't, the modern Heatranger Rayburn and the 680KCD don't get hot unless you have the oven on. More like a regular boiler. Very well insulated and little waste heat. When it is running on heating only, the outside is cold to the touch.

Make sure you get the best type of flue system for your Grant. There are lots to choose from.

have to laugh at electric rayburns, heat ciols in front to make them feel like old rayburns. still warms up on cooker tho and tops are warm most of the time on ones i service

Just horizontal flue I need one length. Its going in wood shed attached to house and

A friend of a friend has a new electric AGA and rarely uses it as she says she can't afford to run it, and uses the old electric cooker in the utility room instead. What a laugh!

Worcester Camrays still being produced, that's the one with the interference fit baffles and the pump facing the return pipe so you can't bleed it.

Well I've never seen them advertised so they can't be very popular.

The old Camrays were quite solid but the new ones won't bear any resemblance to them, probably just a load of flimsy tat now.

Again on an aside note - remember the plunger cartridges in the grey top Honeywell VC type diverter valves need lubricating from time to time or they are inclined to stick in the down position.
