I have problem with my current boiler which has stopped boiler water and heating system.

Not sure what is going on with it we had problem few months back and paid £350 to get it back the igniter
the part which sparkles to ignite the gas was damaged or something like that.

Now it has stopped all of sudden wanted to know if we need new system or is it repairable without much headache?

I live in Edgware, London if anyone around can come down to have a look that would be good option too but any help in this regard is appreciate.

Regards

Forgot to take the picture and mention the name,

How old is this boiler ? Have you thought of replacing it, it could be any number of things, and depending on overall condition of boiler would determine either repair or replacement.

we moved to this place and it seems to be very old but not sure as i thought replacement might be best option.

what do i replace with and how much i am looking for with regards to every thing ie purchase installation etc...?

thanks for reply

You have a large choice when it comes to boilers and every installer will have their favourite , do some research on line, look at length of warranty , up to 10 years available, price will depend on location, other factors will come into force when installing a new boiler, location of flue, size of gas supply, condense discharge, We try and not discus costs on this site as figures could be way out, you need to get at least 3 estimates, contact gas safe and they will give you details of installers in your area, or put a request on here.

Thanks for another important reply. I try to get as much as information i could get hands on and possible. i dont know anything about these plumbing things so thats why i ask "noobish" questions as me being computer person.

We for sure need combi boiler and dont need that lengthy warranty as we are renting the property. Just need this thing done as without Hot water life is hell! and i live in Edgware, London as i asked my friend he said we'll need flushing with new system. so just wanted to have normal combi boiler for 2-3 rooms if that makes any sense?

thanks in advance for all those helping out :)

Will need a chemical flush as a minimum, would recommend that a magnetic filter is fitted on a old system, when you say renting is it your own property that you will be renting ? or are you renting from someone else, if its your own property don't be tempted to fit a cheep boiler as you will have no end of problems with call outs, fit one with a long warranty then all you have to do is get it serviced every year as repairs to modern boilers can be expensive, room size not relevant even a small combi 24Kw would do but look at the water demand, I never fit anything less than 28Kw and a lot of modern boilers can be adjusted to suit the heating demand. Please don't fall into the trap and buy a cheep bottom end boiler you will come to regret it.

well i managed to get an engineer to have a look and at end i was right the cost of the parts + labour will go over 500 so i'd need new one with flushing. so with that said if a boiler comes around £800 say Vaillant ecoTEC plus 824, how much am i looking for the total cost i just need rough and estimate price to take decision as the whole thing will affect the rent (we are tenants in a flat) so need to find least cheapest way to get this thing done sooner would be better as we need it badly!

hope to hear soon..
thx

Get 3 or 4 quotes, that'll give you a better idea. Plus if you're up front everyone know's where they stand.

Go to Gas Safe Register | Ensure your gas engineer is registered. or post a thread in the 'I'm looking for a plumber / gas engineer' section of these forums remembering to include your location. 2.5 K, If you are renting this flat, why is the landlord not sorting it out ? its his problem not yours ! its not up to you to pay for a replacement boiler, unless its you who have damaged it !

Bit sticky with GSIUR also. Who owns the appliance? Are you on a full maintenance lease ? Don't think LL can discharge his responsibility in any circumstances?

Baxi platinum 10 years parts and labour, nice to service and reliable. Ideal logic - 7 years valiant 831- 7 years but more than logic and massive in comparison.

Logic will fit in shoe box so if tight on space would be my choice.

Fit a Magnaclean too!

If your the tenant why is the landlord not doing the work????

I kept forgetting to mention the landlord is not in uk he is africa and i need to fix this thing he'll then pay for it ...
Update : it wont affect rent so thats now out of the way.

Cheers

So if he is in Africa, how is he going to pay the bill ? or will you be paying and knocking it off the rent ?

No problem, I can fit you a WB 42 CDi, flue, magnaclean, DT10 RF optimiser stat, full power flush with fernox chemicals all in £500.00 inc vat! 7 year warranty, reg'd with Gas Safe and Worcester Bosch!

i can start in the morning first thing too if you are keen!

Our payment terms are £1.00 per week, but only on completion and that you are fully satisfied, or don't pay anything!

Let me know, as I know it's a competitive market at present and I may be a tad expensive.
