Hi all,

Went to do a site temp the other day and was asked to take off water from water main in street. The water main tap was in the pavement. The house that this previously supplied had been demolished years ago along with the rest of the street. Now, this stop tap was still live but obviously turned off. My question is:

1/ would this not be illegal to take a supply off the pipe that previously ran to one of these houses?

2/ Shouldn't the water board connect it up, putting a metre on to moniter water consumption?

I know that this pipe is the would be home owners responsibility but this is a different scenario.

Thanks in advance.

I would ask if they have been in contact with the water supply company first. Unless they have permission they can't really connect up to the stopcock, it is not their property.

It would be great if it was a street gas cock, you could just connect on and use as much as you like. But I think nearly everyone knows you can't and isn't water the same?

I told them they needed permission from the supplier which they hadn't got so i left the temp pipe ready for the supplier to connect off the pipe from their stop tap on the pavement. Been back and all conected:) BY ANOTHER PLUMBER:eek:. Surely that cant be right?? The response from the plumber who connected up was the supply company will know that a construction site is starting and will bill them accordingly!!

He said because the pipe was the old estate side of the path it wasnt the water boards property????
