Hi,

we we have just moved into a new home which is 4 years old, it has a new system we are not familiar with and wonder if someone could help us, basically our system is all located under a stairway in our utility room, on the electric supply there is a sticker for water heater and shows a picture of the cylinder, there is also a switch on the wall beside the cylinder that says water heater on/off

this is the system....

vokera mynute combi

oso unvented water heater cylinder type oso indirect 210

our question really is do we have to have these switches on for this system? We do get hot water from the combi but didn't know if the cylinder required electric or if that was just a back up like you got in old builds.

hope this all makes sense!

Hi there Peter , i think the one with the picture on it is the switch for the immersion for your unvented tank if your boiler breaks down you can heat the water electronicly, normally a combin doesnt have a cylinder but its becoming more popular for folks to incorparate storage of hot water along with the combi, i think the other water heater switch youl find is probably no longer in use as b4 the combi was fitted there may have been an older vented tank and that was the immersion switch, you should also have a timeclock where you can program your hot water to be heated from the boiler or tails took off heating pipes with it being an indirect cylinder , the boiler heats the water indirectly, or the other water heater switch maybe the switch that activates the boiler to heat the tank, do you have a timeclock for heating water??

Hi there,

yes there is a time clock that we can set heating and hot water from, there is no old system in the property as the home is only 4 years old and nothing has been changed, we just where not sure why this would be there unless as you say incase the boiler breaks down.

thanks

hi, if you dont know the last time the boiler and cylider had a service/safety check then it would be a good idea to consider having them checked to ensure its all working ok and safe to use. It may also be a good idea to have the water quality in the heating system checked and if needed the inhibitor topped up to protect against future problems.

your engineer can help answer questions and explain your systems design when he/she attends.

welcome to the forum.
