a friend of mine has put a basin right next to the hot water cylinder and says that he wants the basin hot water tap tee'd into were the hot water outlet is on cylinder,i'm under the impression and what i can remember there's a minimum distance before vent,i've seen piping arrangement to intrduce a shower, but not sure he can just t in before vent.advice

The minimum distance of the rising horizontal pipe (i.e hot water draw-off at top of cylinder) to the vent pipe is 450mm min. I think you would be okay to tee into the pipe before the vent as when fitting gravity shower's this is where you can do a take off. If you do this the have the tee underneath the piped dropping down vertically so that you don't get an airlock.

take the tee from the bottom of the pipe, if you take it from near the vent it will draw air in and air lock all the time
