Hi all,

Could I get peoples opinion please.

Did a gas cert for a LL last year and boiler was on its way out. Landlord knew this and asked me to quote to replace. Which I did.

Noted on the GSC that boiler incorrectly terminated through the sidewall of the property straight over the neighbours garden no pathways or border fences, straight into the garden. So could be deemed a nuisance. I quoted to include re routing the new flue so it ran along the top of the kitchen cupboards and out through the front of the property. Obviously I came in more expensive so lost the job.

I have just returned today and the new boiler has been put back in exactly the same way terminating over the neighbours garden. This has been installed by a relatively reputable local firm so I’m just trying to think what to do. Obviously its wrong but would you give them a chance to correct it?

Cheers

Yep heard of this , I am pretty sure it doesn't contravene gas regs but it does building regs .
Ring them lol

That was my understanding it’s the old, but my neighbour doesn’t mind response. But the next one could and rightfully ask them to move it?

Thanks fellas it would be easier if the company weren’t gas safe. It’s always more difficult when the company should know better

tell the next door to complain its in the way and move it

Totally correct but best of luck with either Gassafe or building control being interested unless the neighbour makes a complaint. Lost out on one myself not a couple of weeks ago when I quoted correctly, with a Gassafe co fitting one with a flue discharging at chest height straight across a well used public walkway.

If you are not bothered about the loss if work, why are you bothered?

It has nothing to do with you, but it is wrong.

If you feel so inclined, tell the neighour.
Then move on

Because the customer has called him back in for the annual. He has a duty of care.

Yeah doing LL cert. just entertaining when you know the install has been done wrong within the last 18 months

Okay. Missed that he was returning a year later.
But, all the same, the only duty of care here is to do his job . I would not mention it to the neighbour, (if I still value the client)- just remind the punter and note on your paper work.

But then it is a case of the company getting away with it and doing it again and again and again. Where will they stop. If they are cutting corners with the flue. What else are they cutting corners with?

They will, anyway.

The trouble is that we don't get paid for anything apart from Work, and sometimes not even then.

There will always be poor jobs done - in any field.
Neve waste time on a phone call. If you feel strongly, then WRITE to the local planning dept and Gas Safe. Letters have to be recorded, and are harder to ignore.
Possibly write to the install company with a copy of letter sent to others.
