I recently fitted a new Astracast mono kitchen tap with a pull out hose/spray. The hose/spray is fitted with an aerator nozzle. Fitting was straightforward, water flow is is fine and it looks great. But just lately I've noticed that when you first run the cold water, there is a really strong smell. It's a bit like bad eggs and lasts only during the initial flow of water. The water tastes fine. Any ideas?

Thanks for that. Fascinating! The only problem in my case is that the smell is only evident when I run the cold water, which is directly fed from the mains. Thames Water is the supplier so there is a high 'mineral' content. I wonder if the aerator on the hose has anything to do with it?

I shouldnt have thought that the aerator should make a difference, have you spoken to your neighbours to see if they have the same problem, failing that I should give Thames Water a call and explain the problem

You'll set someone off UG. No doubt some boffin's gonna come in now and tell us "of course it's to do with the aerator. You're disturbing a high flow of water at the molecular level causing a microshift in the zeitgeist of water delivery systems............."

Now. Where's me gun?
