Went to a private job the other day - same custard as the boiler job I had.
Tenant was complaining about a few minor issues: leaking shower, toilet ballvalve, basin tap filter and a leaking kitchen tap.

Went to have a look, diagnosed everything and quoted.

Custard decided only to go ahead with kitchen tap so I quoted £120 including the tap (basic norbis tap).

And I now think she's questioning the tap quote as if it's too much??

An hours labour (min charge as far as I'm concerned), plus tap (and my 20%). Including diagnostic of all 4 issues. I thought £120 was pretty cheap :/

What do you guys charge?

What i sometimes say is i want £60 to do it and then what ever the tap costs .

Just on occasions covers any questions from cust because some think all taps are carp from B & Q at 30 quid

I charge about 2 hours labour plus all parts. Which is really too little.
At £120 for basic tap plus install I think that's a fair price.
People know they can get a tap for £40 and they assume you are getting the other £80 for only an hour labour. They aren't considering any fittings that might be needed, also the time you travel, look at job, perhaps get parts and then your business costs.

I have just supplied and installed a cheap standard kitchen mixer monobloc tap.
Think it costs me £30 inc vat.
But I used a couple of male fittings, 15mm copper (insignificant) and a couple of full flow decent valves. People often don't think of that extra £10.

Exactly, and I hate feeling like I have to justify it. In the end she asked me what she'd owe me if I didn't fit the tap, I said £60 call out charge. Knowing full well it's in her best interest to get me back for an extra £60 including the tap. Going back Wednesday to fit it.

All the tools I've bought, the stress us newbies go through (lol) and the scars from Worcester boiler parts replacement, not to mention being flicked in the face with human excrement from saniflo replacements, I should have charged £300 haha
