Hi
I am thinking of adding a new rad to my kitchen dinner, there is a rad in my hall and I was thinking of coming off of this,it would mean drilling a couple of holes and feeding the pipes through, the floor in the kitchen is concrete so the pipes would run on the surface which is not a problem .My c h is a gravity system ,my question would I have to drain down all the rads or would it be ok to close off all the rads and just drain what's in the pipes, also would it be ok just to turn of the boiler from the timer and turn down thermasat ,it just my boiler is very old and takes ages to relight ,I am due for a service but not for a few weeks, and next weekend I have some time on my hands.
Regards

gravity system can be a pain with airlocks and if its a really old system may even cause problems, I dont see any problem in shutting off all rads in a sealed pressurised system but not so much with gravity, freezing pipes may be an option. What size are the pipes going to your rad ? if its any less than 15mm I wouldnt be tapping into them

As above drain the whole system not just the pipes and dont tee into anything under 15mm. Turn both sides of the timeclock to off and once your finished dont forget to add inhibitor

The pipe work is 15mm, and I will drain the system .
Thanks for your replays.
