got a customer who has had an extension done to a bungalow. In the new extension is a bedroom with an en suite. Just wanted some advice regarding the soil stack.

The toilet in the en suite is situated directly under a window, obviously the soil stack cant got directly out of the toilet because of the window. Am i allowed to locate the stack a few metres to the side of the window and connect into the stack with a single branch pipe and a socket bend if i wanted the soil pipe on the external wall? I seem to remember from somewhere that the stack needs to be a minimum distance from the window, is this right? Also what would the minimum height of the stack be (bearing in mind its a bungalow).

I have the shower waste (40mm) running outside which will seperatly go into a gully connected to the new inspection chamber. This will be the same for the waste for the basin 32mm (although i did contemplate running this into toilet waste via a boss). Where would it be best to get a vent into the system?

Any help is much apprecited, first time this sort of work has come up for me.

Just to add, all plans have been approved by buildings control, and the customer has a builder to dig out and lay drainage.

thanks for your help

cheers
andy

there are maximum lengths for each branch but 2 metres is ok the measure ment fom a window refers to the top of the stack which must either 1m above or 3m away from any opening into the building thats why you see soils running up above dormers on loft extentions

does that only apply to open vent stack steve?.

Hi. If the existing soil and waste system is ventilated via a soil/vent stack. And the waste pipes from the proposed extension are discharged into a back inlet gully you may not have to run a soil stack and vent it. Just connect the WC outlet to a drain/manhole.
